N.H.M.C. became Asia’s first degree college of Homoeopathy in 1961.
The college was disaffiliated by Agra University Agra in 1966 due to nonconformity of minimum standards and again B.M.S. diploma course was enforced. It was in the year 1971 when the college was affiliated to Kanpur University Kanpur and G.H.M.S. degree course was reinstated which continued till 1980. To give uniformity, the first B.H.M.S. five and half year degree course was started in 1981 for which admissions were taken through C.P.M.T. At that point of time the college was again affiliated to erstwhile Agra University Agra which was later named as Bhim Rao Ambedkar University Agra. The admission capacity to this college is 50. The college continued in the same old rented building situated in Cant Road kaiserbag, Lucknow..
It was historical event when the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh sanctioned Rs. 1611.31 lakh for purchasing five acre land in Gomti Nagar and for construction of new building to house N.H.M.C. The seeds of this institution were sown by Dr. B. S. Tandon, famous Homoeopathic Physician of his time, on August 18, 1961 with the name Hahnemannian Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital. The first batch had only eight students and the classes were being conducted at his residence in Lalbagh because the college did not have a building of its own. Gradually with the swelling number of students the college was shifted to M. D. Shukla Inter College at Nadan Mahal Road, Lucknow.
It was in 1965 when Col. B. R. Mohan, the then Mayor of Lucknow, donated Rs. 10,000/- to the college and it was renamed as Mohan Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital. Due to sustained efforts of the Management Board , a residential house with 50,000 square feet of land was purchased at 2 Nabi Ullah road in 1970. Mohan Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital was shifted in this premises. Later on, with the financial help from State and Central Government a new three stories building was constructed in the same campus to run the various laboratories , library and girls Hostels, including warden’s residence , with the old accommodation to run a Homoeopathic Medical College, the Maternity ward, Medical Ward, Surgical ward, Children ward, Dissection Hall & O.T. were also constructed in addition .
Initially a diploma course B.M.S. of four year duration was started with affiliation to Homoeopathic Medicine Board, U.P. Following very prolonged more than two and half years agitation by the students unions formed by the all the private Homoeopathic Medical College of U.P. including N.H.M.C. students named UTTAR PRADESH HOMOEOPATHIC CHATTREH MAHA SANGH. The Government of U.P. provincialized all the private Homoeopathic medical colleges on 11.12.1981 and the admissions were started through C.P.M.T. In the meantime the college was affiliated to Agra University Agra and a degree course, BHMS of five and half years duration, was started. The admission capacity for the first year was fixed to 35 depending on the numbers of beds ratio in indoor patient department.
In the year 2000, the new building of State National Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital was constructed at Viraj Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow and the college was shifted in it from Cantt. Road kaiserbag, Lucknow. Later on, by the G. O. of Government of U.P. dated 16th February 2001, the Mohan Homoeopathic Medical College M.H.M.C. was merged with National Homoeopathic Medical College N.H.M.C. and hence the former lost its existence. It is just like Yamuna confluencing with Ganga at Sangam and the name of Ganga goes on.
Presently the office of the Homoeopathic Medicine Board, U.P and State Drug Laboratory are housed in the old premises of State MHMC at 2, Nabi Ullah Road, Lucknow.
